Dorthy Mae Craig

SPRINGFIELD The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 23, at Major Family Funeral Home in Springfield for Dorthy Mae Craig of Springfield, who died July 17 of age-related causes at age 79.

She was born May 19, 1929 in Marshfield to Raymond and Hilda Lindstrom Patten. She married Kirby Melvin Craig on June 30, 1947, in Reno, Nev.

She worked as a sewing instructor at Lane Community College and as an office manager for the Lane County Democratic Party.

Survivors include two daughters, Dorthy Arliene Haag of Eugene and Patricia Darliene Hoeper of Springfield; a son, Ronald Kirby Craig of Springfield; and one granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her husband and a granddaughter, Brandi Haag.

Visitation at Major Family Funeral Home will be from noon to 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, and from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 23.

Private burial will be at Brumbaugh Cemetery in Cottage Grove. Arrangements by Major Family Funeral Home in Springfield.

Ellen Gibson

SPRINGFIELD A graveside service will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday, July 21, at Creswell Cemetery for Ellen Gibson of Springfield. She died July 17 of age-related causes at age 90. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday at Musgrove Family Mortuary in Eugene.

She was born Dec. 27, 1917, in Jones County, Miss., to Thomas and Nola Tucker Walters. She married Donald Gibson on Jan. 13, 1945, in Ellisville, Miss.

She worked at The Eugene Hotel and Motel 66 until her retirement in 1980.

Survivors include two daughters, Jackie Larson of Eugene and Donna Gibson of Springfield; a son, Anthony of Springfield; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Her husband died Feb. 16, 1986, and two sons, Roy Smith and Michael Gibson, died previously.

Fred Hamilton

LOWELL Fred Wayne Hamilton, of Lowell, died July 17 of uranium poisoning at age 74. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.

He was born April 21, 1934 in Telluride, Colo., to Ross and Lula Baker Hamilton.

He served in the Navy from 1949 to 1953 and in the Marine Corps from 1953 to 1955. He was on active duty during the Korean War. He worked as a miner, electrician and painter.

He married Lois Thomas of Naturita, Colo., on Nov. 11, 1956.

Survivors include his wife; two sons Wayne of Pendleton and Robert of Springfield; a daughter Laurie Dodds of Lowell; a brother Ross of Fruita, Colo.; two sisters, Oleeta Goodrich of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Loree Spor of Norwood, Colo., 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Veneda Alberta Johnston

ELMIRA A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 21, at Springfield Memorial Gardens, for Veneda Alberta Johnston of Elmira. She died July 17 from age-related causes at age 85. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Monday at Springfield Memorial Gardens.

She was born July 28, 1922, in Callaway, Neb., to Forrest and Ruby Nelson Hammans. She married Alfred F. Johnston on Jan. 29, 1941 in Broken Bow, Neb. She worked as a cook and was a homemaker.

Survivors include a daughter, Patricia 'Patty' Johnston of Elmira; a sister, Faye Berkheimer of Columbus, Neb.; and a brother, Maynard Hammans of Broken Arrow, Okla.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Her husband died April 3, 1993. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Forrest Jr. and Dale.

Burial will be at Springfield Memorial Gardens. Remembrances to Patricia Johnston trust fund at Siuslaw Bank.

Hilbert Roth

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, July 21, at West Lawn Memorial Park in Eugene for Hilbert August 'Hil' Roth of Eugene. He died July 17 of cancer at age 79.

He was born March 5, 1929, in Stockton, Minn., to Herbert and Anna Weisbrodt Roth. He married Marilyn Visker on March 1, 1953, in Sioux City, Iowa.

Roth served in the Navy. He worked as a railroad engineer in Minnesota and for Southern Pacific Railroad in Eugene for 38 years.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Jeffrey of Eugene and Mark of Dania, Fla.; a daughter, Debra Roth of Eugene; and six grandchildren.

Remembrances to the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life.

Stuart G. Schneider

BLUE LAKE, Calif. A funeral will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, July 21, at Paul's Chapel in Arcata, Calif., for Stuart G. Schneider, of Blue Lake, Calif., formerly of Lane County, who died July 16 of age-related causes at age 91. Visitation will be from noon to 4 p.m. today.

He was born March 6, 1917 in Lorane to George and Ella Addison Schneider.

He married Irene Humphreys on June 2, 1942 in Weiser, Idaho.

He owned Schneider Logging.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Ellen Gaethle and Edith Wohland, both of Humboldt County, Calif., and Kathryn Wysong; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Edwin, in 2003.

Burial will be at Ocean View Cemetery in Eureka, Calif.
