Becky Edwards

SPRINGFIELD - A celebration of life is planned for a later date for Becky Louise Edwards of Springfield, who died May 8 of congestive heart failure. She was 41.

She was born Nov. 6, 1966, in Upland, Calif., to James and Karen McKinney Panting. She and her husband, Martin Edwards, had been married for 12 years.

She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband; her mother; two sons, Johnathan Jackson of Oregon and Joshua Jackson of Springfield; four daughters, Melissa Jackson, Ashly Jackson, Mindy Edwards and Misty Edwards, all of Springfield; a sister, Lori Newberrie of Oakridge; and two brothers, Randy McKinney and Mitch Panting, both of Boise. A daughter, Stephanie Jackson, died in 1988.

Dexter Elliott

Dexter Hadley "Dex" Elliott of Eugene died May 6 of age-related causes at age 89. No service is planned.

He was born Oct. 21, 1918, in Hawarden, Iowa, to Dexter and Wilma Rhynsburger Elliott. He married Bette Mann on Aug. 7, 1942, in Pasadena, Calif.

Elliott was self-employed as a manufacturer's representative.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Jean Hotchkiss of Eugene and Carole Palmer of Canoga Park, Calif.; a son, Don of Eugene; and two grandchildren.

Arrangements by Musgrove Family Mortuary in Eugene. Remembrances to the American Heart Association or Sacred Heart Hospice.

Shirley Graves

SPRINGFIELD - A celebration of life will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 17, at Crossfire Church in Springfield for Shirley Jane Graves of Springfield, who died May 13 of lung cancer. She was 67.

She was born Dec. 22, 1940, in Michigan to Edward and Jane Shooty Yeko. She married Ronald Graves on Aug. 10, 2000, in Springfield.

She worked as a sales associate in the electronics department at Wal-Mart.

Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Jane Pollick of Springfield; a son, John Daniels of Springfield; two stepdaughters, Kristi Graves and Ami Warnick, both of Springfield; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Francis Hite

COTTAGE GROVE - Francis Bert Hite of Cottage Grove died May 15 of cancer. He was 71. A private family gathering will be held.

He was born March 22, 1937, in Cottage Grove to Dave and Agnes Jackson Hite. He married Barbara Miller in 1972 in Cottage Grove.

He graduated from Cottage Grove High School in 1955. He worked as a grader operator in the logging industry for Murphy Logging and J.J. Excavation.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Rick Miller of Terrebonne, Gary Hite of Sublimity and Gerald Hite of Cottage Grove; five daughters, Debbie Evans of Creswell, Lori Ayers and Sue Hansen, both of Cottage Grove, Francine Theodore of Albany and Kim Ham of Reno, Nev.; 16 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Ben Johnson

Ben R. Johnson of Eugene died May 13 of cardiac arrest at age 78. A private gathering will be held later.

He was born Oct. 19, 1929, in Clintwood, Va., to Homer and Eula Fleming Johnson. He married Juanita Connor on June 12, 1949, in Walker.

He attended Cottage Grove High School and served in the U.S. Navy. Johnson owned and operated Ben's McKenzie Market in Springfield.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Benita Young of Tenino, Wash.; three sisters, Reba Maddess and Brenda Brodigan, both of Creswell, and Anna Maddess of Cottage Grove; and three grandchildren. A son, Chris, died previously.

Inurnment will be at Rest-Haven Memorial Park in Eugene. Arrangements by Rest-Haven Memorial Park & Funeral Home in Eugene. Remembrances to FOOD for Lane County.

Doyle Nation

FLORENCE - A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. May 24 at the Florence Moose Lodge for Doyle D. Nation of Florence, who died May 7 of esophageal cancer. He was 73.

He was born June 25, 1934, in Tulsa, Okla. He married Audrey Posey Malloy on Nov. 27, 1988, in Florence.

Nation worked at Weyerhaeuser, was a contractor in Coos Bay, Coquille and Florence and owned and operated Nations Creation Gift Shop.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Glen of Coleman, Texas; a brother, Jerry of Springfield; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A son, Gary, died previously.

Arrangements by Burns's Riverside Chapel Florence Funeral Home. Remembrances to Peace Harbor Hospital Home Health Hospice.

Maurice Sharp

Maurice W. Sharp of Eugene died May 9 of age-related causes. He was 95. No service is planned.

He was born Dec. 15, 1912, in Sargent, Neb., to Harry and Zeda Haines Sharp. He and his wife, Maxine Ann Hoppe Sharp, were married 30 years.

Sharp was a millwright for Weyerhaeuser in Springfield for 29 years. He retired in 1979.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Robert Sharp of Springfield, and Lyn Wheeler and Mark Wheeler, both of Junction City; a sister, Shirley Engles of Lincoln, Neb.; 17 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

Burial will be at Sunset Hills Cemetery in Eugene. Arrangements by Sunset Hills Cemetery & Funeral Home in Eugene.

Ernest VanKeuren

SPRINGFIELD - Ernest Frank VanKeuren of Springfield died May 13 of age-related causes at age 82. A memorial service is planned at English Funeral Chapel in Post Falls, Idaho.

He was born Sept. 22, 1925, in Eureka, Calif., to Frank and Marie VanKeuren. He married Naomi Frances McCrite in August of 1951 in Post Falls. She died June 20, 2000.

He served in the U.S. Army in the South Pacific during World War II. VanKeuren worked in mines, at a Kaiser Aluminum processing mill and as a long-haul truck driver.

Survivors include a son, Bob of Sparks, Nev.; five daughters, Debbie Reid of Springfield, Dorothy Rownfats of Spokane, Kathy Brown of Sheridan, Wyo., Elizabeth VanKeuren of Post Falls, and Denise Pourroy of Gracey, Ky.; two sisters, LouAnn Richardson of San Jose, Calif., and Joyce Kristensson of Pasadena, Calif.; a brother, Stan Petrich of Portland; 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
