Melvin Clarke

JUNCTION CITY - Melvin Sylvester "Mel" Clarke of Junction City died Jan. 6 of age-related causes at age 92. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday, Jan. 11, at Murphy-Musgrove Funeral Home in Junction City. An open house will follow from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday at 94968 Oaklea Drive in Junction City.

He was born March 7, 1914, in Clarkes, Ore., to George and Ethel Markley Clarke. He married Reva Larkins on Jan. 20, 1935, in Beaver Creek. She died in 2003

He owned and operated Clarke Truck and Shipping Service and, later, Clarke's Ceramics, both in Junction City.

Survivors include a son, Melvin of Eugene; two daughters, Carole Kuhnbenn of McMurray, Pa., and Sandra Barnes of Junction City; a sister, Lois Marshall of Clarkes; 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild. One great-grandchild died previously.

Private inurnment will be in Rest Lawn Memorial Park in Junction City.

Lorene Stroud

COTTAGE GROVE - The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, at Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel in Cottage Grove for Lorene Stroud of Cottage Grove, who died Jan. 5 of age-related causes. She was 76. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Jan. 9, at the funeral home.

She was born Dec. 3, 1930, in Cleveland, Ark., to J.A. and Edith Leffler Eubanks. She married Dewey Stroud in Cleveland, Ark., on May 25, 1950. He died in 2000.

She was a homemaker and later worked at McDonald's, Figaro's and Price Chopper.

Survivors include a daughter, Vickie Pruitt, of Cottage Grove; three sisters, Jo Freeman and Ramona Thompson, both of Morrilton, Ark., and Mary Mitchell, of Mount Pleasant, Texas; a brother, John Eubanks, of Kalama, Wash.; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

A son, Dennis, and three brothers died previously.

Private burial will be at Fir Grove Cemetery in Cottage Grove. Remembrances to Cottage Grove Hospital Auxiliary.

Jerry Bureau

Jerry E. Bureau of Eugene died Dec. 29 of heart disease at age 70. No service is planned.

He was born Oct. 9, 1936, in Astoria to Fred and Ruth Johnson Bureau.

Bureau retired from Georgia-Pacific Plywood Mill in Springfield, then owned and operated East Amazon Antique Auto Parts.

Survivors include two sons, Barry of Midpines, Calif., and Jeff of Mariposa, Calif.; and a sister, Betty Van Osdul of Astoria.

Arrangements by Mus- grove Family Mortuary in Eugene.

Michael Holmes

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, at Musgrove Family Center in Eugene for Michael Holmes of Eugene, who died Jan. 5 at age 53. The family chose not to list the cause of death.

He was born April 12, 1953, in Littlefield, Texas, to Jay Lee and Vernita Young Holmes. He married Maria Sandoval on July 21, 1979, in Fresno, Calif. She died Sept. 7, 1999.

Survivors include his mother, Vernita Holmes of Portland; three daughters, Carmenita Holmes, Anastacia Holmes and Sylvia Holmes, all of Eugene; two sisters, Blondenia Holmes and Loretta Johnson, both of Portland; a brother, Bobby, of Portland; and five grandchildren.

Private burial will be at Rest-Haven Memorial Park in Eugene. Arrangements by Musgrove Family Mortuary in Eugene.

James Webster

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 12, at Immanuel Lutheran Brethren Church for James Bergin Webster of Eugene, who died Jan. 6 of pancreatic cancer at age 79.

He was born June 26, 1927, in Eugene to Darwin and Glow Hockley Webster. He married Ethel Pehrson on Feb. 14, 1962, in Eugene.

He worked as a timber faller. He served in the Army in World War II and in Korea.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Christina Williams of Portland and Lea Ellen Clayton of Castle Rock, Wash.; a son, Ronald Fish of Eugene; a sister, Louise Hobwood of Oregon City; a brother, Darwin of Dexter; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A son, James M. Webster, died in 2003.
