Calvin Fisk

NOTI - The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 5 at West Lawn Memorial Park & Funeral Home in Eugene for Calvin Wesley Fisk of Noti. He died Dec. 29 of age-related causes at age 84.

He was born Sept. 20, 1922, in Noti to Clifford and Sarah Belle Truesdale Fisk. His first wife, Charlotte, died in 1986. He married Thelma Baker on July 26, 1986, in Yachats.

He served in the Navy for 23 years, retiring at the rank of commander in 1965. He was an assistant dean of the graduate school and an associate professor at the University of Oregon from 1966 to 1977, when he retired.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Christopher of Eugene; a daughter, Anne Dorsey of Glide; three stepsons, Michael Baker of Kihei, Hawaii, Steven Baker of Noti and Gregory Baker of Elmira; a stepdaughter, Renee Ota of Noti; 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Burial will be at Sailor Pioneer Cemetery in Noti. Arrangements by Chapel of Memories Funeral Home in Eugene. Remembrances to the Sailor Pioneer Cemetery, P.O. Box 520, Noti, OR 97461.

Gladys Kulm

COTTAGE GROVE - The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 5, at Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel in Cottage Grove for Gladys Stella Kulm of Cottage Grove, who died Jan. 1 of age-related causes at age 93.

She was born Dec. 6, 1913, in Nebraska to Guy and Stella Preuniger Smith. She married Arthur Kulm on Aug. 15, 1933, in Naper, Neb. He died May 29, 1978.

Survivors include two daughters, Joanne Moody of Bend and Joyce "Sam" Thies of La Pine; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A son, Kenneth, died previously.

Private burial will be at Sunset Hills Memorial Gardens in Eugene. Remembrances to Cottage Grove United Methodist Church.

Lorna Madsen

JUNCTION CITY - The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 8, at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church in the Lancaster area near Junction City for Lorna Marilyn Madsen of Junction City. Madsen died Dec. 30 of age-related causes at age 83. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Monday at Murphy-Musgrove Funeral Home in Junction City.

She was born Feb. 13, 1923, in Peters, Neb., to Peter and Anna Peters Weyers. She married Virgil Madsen on Jan. 21, 1947, in Nebraska. He died Feb. 11, 1993.

She served in the Navy in World War II as a war plane instrument technician from 1943 to 1946. She also had worked as a bus driver, hairdresser, a driver for Avis and in the family businesses in farming, auctioning and real estate.

Survivors include four daughters, Marilyn Rigby of Littleton, Colo., Charlotte Howard of Eugene, Kathleen Shaw of Lambertville, Mich., and Annette Ordonez of Foster City, Calif.; two sons, Darrell of Junction City and Doyle of Chandler, Ariz.; three brothers, Orval Weyers and Leo Weyers, both of Haysprings, Neb., and Lewis Weyers of Colorado Springs, Colo.; 19 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Burial will be in the Danish Cemetery in Junction City. Remembrances to the church.

John Arnold

SPRINGFIELD - A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, at Camp Creek Church in Springfield for John D. Arnold of Springfield, who died Dec. 30 of cancer at age 60.

He was born July 13, 1946, in Canon City, Colo., to John and Jeanette Ross Arnold. He married Susan Goodwater on Dec. 4, 1965, in Las Vegas.

Arnold served in the Navy for four years. He worked as a plumber-pipefitter for 38 years.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Kurt of Springfield; a daughter, Kelly Hemphill of Bend; a sister, Vesta Riddle of Merced, Calif.; and seven grandchildren.

Thomas Unger

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 5, at Musgrove Family Mortuary in Eugene for Thomas "Thom" Unger of Sheridan, formerly of the Eugene area. Unger died Jan. 2 of a heart attack at age 45. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. today, Jan. 4, at the funeral home.

He was born Aug. 10, 1961, in Eugene to Ernest and Patsy Roberts Unger.

He worked as a recreational vehicle service manager.

Survivors include his parents, of Eugene; a brother, Richard of Portland; and two sisters, Jodie Rich of Lyme Center, N.H., and Marci Riveria of Fresno, Calif.

Burial will be at West Lawn Memorial Park in Eugene. Remembrances to the Greenhill Humane Society.

Marie Thomas

Marie Thomas of Eugene died Jan. 1 of age-related causes at age 81. No service is planned.

She was born May 21, 1925, in Fresno, Calif. She married William Thomas in 1947 in Fresno.

She was a homemaker.

Survivors include two sons, Jack of Eugene and Charles of Southern California; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Her husband died March 13, 1990.

Loren Herbert

A celebration of life will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 5, at First Christian Church in Corvallis for Loren Ellis Herbert of Corvallis, who died Jan. 1 of age-related causes at age 87.

He was born May 23, 1919, in Elmira to Mark and Saphrona Wilson Herbert. He married Irene Schrock in 1940.

He worked in road construction, farmed for 15 years and later owned a construction company.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Delores Oliver of Corvallis, Markie Shields of Junction City and Lorene Smith of Monroe; a son, Don of Corvallis; a half-brother, Dale of Eugene; nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Burial will be at Willamette Memorial Park in Albany. Arrangements by McHenry Funeral Home in Corvallis. Remembrances to the church in care of the funeral home, 206 N.W. Fifth St., Corvallis, OR 97330.

David Kline

SPRINGFIELD - At his request, a celebration of life will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, at the OK Tavern and Lounge in Springfield for David Owen "Dok" Kline of Springfield. He died Jan. 1 at age 59. The family chose not to list the cause of death.

He was born Feb. 3, 1947, in San Bernardino, Calif., to Richard and Ida Hitchcock Kline. He married Iona Crabtree in October, 1998, in Eugene.

Kline served in the Navy in the Vietnam War aboard the USS Mount McKinley. He worked in hospital and hotel maintenance.

Survivors include his wife; four children, Robert Kline, Staci Kline and Deanna Kline, all of California, and Christi Kline of Hawaii; a brother, Richard of Missouri; a sister, Lila Anne Kline of Arizona; six stepchildren, Ted Cheever and Mike Cheever, both of Albany, Michelle Cheever of California and Mark, Mike and Lisa; five grandchildren and 19 step- grandchildren.

Noreen Rainey

SPRINGFIELD - A celebration of life was held Jan. 2 for Noreen Ann Rainey of Springfield, who died Jan. 1 of age-related causes. She was 80.

She was born June 24, 1926, in Sacramento to Freddie and Annie May Wristen. She married Billy Jack Rainey on July 29, 1960, in Sacramento. He died in 2003.

Rainey worked as a teletype operator in Sacramento.

Survivors include a son, Jerry of Springfield; a daughter, Krystal Kuennen of Elk Grove, Calif.; two brothers, Hank Wristen of Hudson, N.H., and Fred Wristen of Sacramento; three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Inurnment will be later at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland. Remembrances to Cascade Hospice. Arrangements by Major Family Funeral Home in Springfield.

Geneva Callaghan

DORENA - The graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, at Santa Maria Cemetery in Santa Maria, Calif., for Geneva Callaghan of Dorena. She died Dec. 31 of age-related causes at age 92.

She was born Dec. 9, 1914, in Coleman, Okla., to Henry and Hattie Fite Kendrick. She married James Woody on Jan. 31, 1935, in Willow, Okla., and they divorced in the early 1960s. She married Arthur Callaghan in 1961 in Las Vegas. He died Feb. 27, 1993.

She was a homemaker.

Survivors include two daughters, Lonteen Thompson of Dorena and Shirley Moore of Elkton; two sisters, Faye Easter of Fort Cobb, Okla., and Cleo Bertino of Rochester, N.Y.; six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

"Jimmy" Perez

COTTAGE GROVE - Visitation will be from noon to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, at Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel in Cottage Grove for Clifford "Jimmy" Perez of Cottage Grove, who died Dec. 29 at age 23. The family chose not to list the cause of death.

A celebration of life will be after 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Big Stuff Barbecue in Cottage Grove.

He was born Feb. 20, 1983, to Raymond Perez Jr. and Frances Cain Perez, and was raised by his mother and stepfather. He worked as a construction framer.

Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Frances and Robert Mena of Cottage Grove; his life partner, Stepheny Clem; two sons, Diego of Bakersfield, Calif., and Dominick of Eugene; a daughter, Korina Perez of Cottage Grove; three brothers, Frank Perez Jr., Jesse Perez and Robert Mena Jr., all of Cottage Grove; and two sisters, Fatima Perez of Cottage Grove and Jessica Mena of Murrietto Springs, Calif.


VENETA - A celebration of life for Hazel E. Wright of Veneta will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, at 89817 Territorial Road in Elmira. The burial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Rest Lawn Memorial Park, Junction City. Wright died Dec. 31 at age 97. Arrangements by Musgrove Family Mortuary in Eugene.
