Joe Estes

SPRINGFIELD - A memorial service will be held June 22 for Joe F. Estes of Springfield, who died June 16 of pancreatic cancer at age 57.

He was born to Joe and Virgie Young Estes on May 17, 1949, in Eugene. He married Janice Hughes on May 22, 1971, in Springfield.

He retired after 30 years as district chief of the Eugene Fire Department. He was the owner of McKenzie River Rafting Co. He served in the Army from 1967 to 1970, completing two tours in Vietnam.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Benjamin of Milwaukee, Wis., and Matthew of Springfield; and three siblings, Linda Lusby of Vida, Gay Harris of Highland Ranch, Colo., and Jim Estes of Springfield.

Thursday's service will be at 11 a.m. at Willamette Christian Center, 2500 W. 18th Ave. in Eugene. Arrangements by Andreason's Cremation & Burial Service, Springfield. Memorial contributions to ParCAN, 2141 Rosecrans Ave., Suite 7000, El Segundo, Calif., 90245.
