Saul Bivens

CHEMULT - A memorial celebration will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, at the Christian Life Center, 21720 E. Highway 20 in Bend, for former Lane County resident Saul Nathaniel Bivens of Chemult, who died Sept. 27 of complications following back surgery. He was 26.

He was born on Nov. 11, 1983, in Springfield to Paul Bivens and Marguerite Luce Anderson. He married Dana Nicole Gewin on Feb. 19, 2005, in Bend.

He attended La Pine High School and Lane Community College. He worked in logging, landscaping and carpentry.

Survivors include his wife; a son and daughter, Caleb and Savannah; his father of Chemult; his mother of Olympia; a grandfather, Allan Luce of Pleasant Hill; a brother, Shallum Bivens of Eugene; and two sisters, Jeannette Lockwood of Bend and Michelle Seroka of Fairbanks. A step-father, John Anderson, died previously.

Florence Coffman

SPRINGFIELD - Florence E. Coffman of Springfield died Sept. 30 of age-related causes at age 88. No service is planned.

She was born Oct. 6, 1921, in Normal, Ill., to Telles and Anna Arnold Eades. She married Jesse Lee Coffman in St. Louis in 1943.

She graduated from Normal High School and worked as a school secretary at Poly High School in Sun Valley, Calif., for 10 years.

Survivors include two sons, Dave of Junction City and John of Springfield; two brothers, Arthur Eades of Manhattan Beach, Calif., and Howard Eades of Canyon Country, Calif.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Her husband died previously.

Arrangements by Sunset Hills Cemetery, Funeral Home and Crematorium in Eugene.

Gwendolyn Ford

LOWELL - Gwendolyn Fay Ford of Lowell died Sept. 28 of age-related causes at age 78. No service is planned.

She was born Feb. 13, 1932, in Wise County, Texas, to Roy and Aurelia Jackson Gasperson. She married Cecil L. Ford in Texas in 1952. He died in 1991.

She attended Texas public schools and Fullerton Community College in California. She and her husband owned and operated Ford Manufacturing Co., manufacturing artificial flowers and plants sold throughout the United States.

Survivors include two daughters, Kim Ford of Corona, Calif., and Joni Lynn Mansfield of Lowell; a son, Norman of Glenwood, Iowa; four brothers, Chuck Roach of Biloxi, Miss., Filbert Roach of Temple, Texas, Jimmy Roach of Glen Rose, Texas, and Pete Roach of Many, La.; a sister, Janis Bartz of Temple; and one grandchild and one great-grandchild.

Patricia Hanratty

COTTAGE GROVE - Patricia Hanratty of Cottage Grove died Oct. 2 of cancer at age 77.

A memorial service will be held later.

She was born July 2, 1933, in Eston, England, to Patrick and Winifred Shaw Hanratty.

She attended school in England and worked as a secretary at Wonder Bread.

Survivors include a daughter, Therese Sparks of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; two brothers, Owen of Pork End, Middlesbrough, England, and John of Normanby, Cleveland, England; and two grandchildren.

Arrangements by Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel in Cottage Grove. Remembrances to Humane Society of Cottage Grove.

Floyd Murray

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 6, at Bethel Temple for Floyd R. Murray of Eugene, who died Oct. 1 of leukemia. He was 85.

Visitation will precede the service at 10 a.m. at Bethel Temple.

He was born Nov. 20, 1924, in Grand Junction, Colo., to Granville and Delilah Parker Murray. He married Dorothy Bowden on June 23, 1949, in Fresno, Calif. She died July 4, 2001.

He was a U.S. Marine for more than 22 years, and served during World War II and the Korean War.

He later worked in the paint department for Peterbilt Motors for 20 years before retiring in 1986.

Survivors include two daughters, Susan Freimarck and Deborah Dowdy, both of Eugene; a son, Robert of Eugene; and eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Steven Turner

Steven Ray Turner of Eugene died Sept. 30 of heart failure at age 56. No service is planned.

He was born Jan. 23, 1943, in San Diego to Arlie and Dolly McElhenney Turner.

He graduated from South Eugene High School, and worked as a forklift operator for Georgia Pacific for 44 years, retiring in 2005.

Survivors include his partner, Terry Grondona; his mother; a son, David of Beaverton; a daughter, Christy Schloss of Corvallis; two brothers, Dean of Eugene and Rex of Salem; two sisters, D'Anne Gilmore of Milwaukie and Gayle Buck of Eugene; and five grandchildren.

Nora Waldrip

SPRINGFIELD - Nora Marie Waldrip of Springfield died Sept. 30 of cancer at age 80. Services will be held later.

She was born Feb. 24, 1930, in Klamath Falls to Maurice and Lydia Coburn Keane.

She was a manager at See's Candies at Valley River Center between 1968 and 1989.

Survivors include a son, John of Eugene; a daughter, Suzanne Madison of Klamath Falls; a brother, Gene Keane of Madras; and four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
