OAPs face eat or heat dilemma.

OLDER people could face a "heating or eating" dilemma after the Con-Dems slashed winter fuel payments.

Age Scotland made the claim yesterday as OAPs were reminded of the cut amid soaring energy prices.

The one-off winter payment has been reduced from pounds 250 to pounds 200 for over 60s and from pounds 400 to pounds 300 for over 80s.

The move was announced in March and pensioners were told of the payments by letter over the past week.

Doug Anthoney, of Age Scotland, said: "When the cold snaps come, many pensioners will be facing a heating or eating dilemma.

"Spending on tackling fuel poverty would not only means less misery for older people but make financial sense, saving the NHS 42p for every pounds 1 spent."
