OAP Dave just keeps on running! Great-grandad to be oldest runner in Coventry Half Marathon at age of 76.
A 76-YEAR?OLD great-grandad will be the oldest runner hitting the streets in the Coventry Half Marathon.
And Dave Thomas will be leading three generations of his family on the 13.1 mile race through the city.
Dave, who lives in Wyken, Coventry will be joined on March 23 by his two daughters, his son-in-law, his niece and his grand-daughter - they will all be fundraising for Zoe's Place Baby Hospice.
Dave said: "I'm actually looking forward to taking part along with the thousands of others and it will be good to know that there are a few post offices on the route so I can collect my pension money!" "All joking apart, I thrilled my family are going to be taking part and that Zoe's Place have over 250 runners and volunteers, so I'll feel well supported on the day."
Hundreds of people are expected to take part in the race to keep up with the active pensioner.
Dave, a retired decorator, has a particularly strong motivation for finishing the race; his son in law Mick McCann is fundraising manager at Zoe's Place.
Mick said: "It is wonderful for me personally to have so many of my relatives taking part and supporting the hospice in our charitable objective to provide care for babies and toddlers with life-limiting and lifethreatening medical conditions. "We hope to raise in the region of PS30,000, with each runner pledging to raise a minimum of PS75 sponsorship and this will provide 1200 hours of care.
"Dave is an inspiration to us all. Whilst most people of his age are happy for the comfort of their armchair Dave is more likely to be climbing hills and mountains as a member of the CHA Rambling Association or up ladders painting and decorating the homes of family members after working in this trade for 40 years with Coventry City Council."
About 2,000 runners are taking part in the big event sponsored by Decathlon.
