O2 has launched a package [...]; Cash point.

O2 has launched a package for holidaymakers offering simple, worryfree mobile usage throughout Europe this summer.

From July, monthly contract customers can get O2 Travel, which offers 25MB of data per day for pounds 1.99 and a one-off 50p per call charge, with minutes then taken from existing tariffs.

Pay-as-you-go customers get the same 25MB but will pay from 29p per minute to make calls and 8p to receive them.

This follows hot on the heels of new EU regulations that will see data down-load charges capped at a maximum of 56p per megabyte - six times cheaper than they have been - from July.

In 2009, many mobile firms were charging pounds 3.30 per megabyte.

Since 2007 the EU has been tackling rip-off mobile charges, placing caps on calls and texts, and now officials have tackled data fees.

The EU reckons caps, including 23p per minute for calls, will help to prevent large, unexpected bills and save a family taking an annual holiday in another EU country around pounds 160.
