O2 gets 1m new customers; your money.
MOBILE phone giant O2 connected 292,000 more customers in another competition-crushing quarter.
It means the firm, part of Spanish giant Telefonica, has signed up a million users in the past year giving it 21 million in all.
By contrast, its four main mobile rivals have added just 400,000 between them. Matthew Key, boss of Telefonica Europe, told Your Money that O2 now had more customers than BT.
It is the only UK mobile network still growing revenue despite a 15% annual fall in the cost of calls.
This reflects the success of the iPhone - exclusive to O2 for the past two years - which helped boost mobile internet use and the popularity of cheap SIM-only deals.
And O2 has made it easy for customers to check how many minutes they have left.
The computerised hotline is taking five million calls a month but the downside is around 200 jobs have gone.
