O.B. RAWLS IV TO DIRECT NATIONSBANK MERCHANT CREDIT CARD DIVISION

 CHARLOTTE, N.C., April 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Eileen Friars, president of NationsBank Card Services, has named O.B. Rawls IV to direct the NationsBank Merchant Credit Card Division.
 "I'm pleased O.B. has accepted this new challenge," Friars said. "His extensive consumer background is impressive, as are his leadership and team-building skills. I expect O.B. to have the more than 250 merchant card associates working together to provide NationsBank services to our 80,000 merchant customers throughout the United States."
 A senior vice president, Rawls joined NationsBank (NYSE: NB) in 1977 as an assistant cashier and adjustor in the Washington, N.C., Consumer Credit Department. He has held a number of positions since then, including banking center manager, city executive, consumer banking director and area consumer executive. He also was service quality executive for Marketing before being named Charlotte Region consumer executive, a position he has held since September 1991.
 The NationsBank Merchant Credit Card Division comprises four areas:
 -- Merchant Chargebacks, which supervises and administers the
 chargeback process according to Visa/MasterCard operation
 regulations;
 -- Merchant Services, which is responsible for the credit
 approval and processing of new applications;
 -- Merchant Sales, which promotes and maintains merchant
 relationships and aggressively calls on new business, and
 -- Portfolio Management, which administers the profitability,
 security and interchange configuration of the $6 billion
 merchant portfolio on an account-by-account basis.
 Rawls, who is from Washington, N.C., graduated from Washington High School, earned his bachelor's degree from East Carolina University and earned his MBA from Queens College. He has served in the NC Army National Guard since 1970.
 Rawls is a member of the Gaston County Chamber of Commerce and serves on its Economic Development Committee. He and his wife, the former Mary Litchfield of Washington, have two children and will move to Norfolk.
