O yea! Tom, 4, is tiniest town crier; KIDS.

Byline: RICHARD SMITH LITTLE

Tom Gahan has a lot to shout about today - as the only four-year-old in a national town crier contest.

The lad will be belting out tidings beside 20 experienced adult competitors from around the country.

Tom has been mad about town criers since the age of two and has been given his own tricorn hat and bell.

Mentor Owen Collier, who performs the role in Tom's home town Wootton Bassett, Wilts, invited the youngster to enter the contest there.

Mr Collier said: "One market day I wasn't there and someone told me Tom had been there with his hat and bell, yelling away.

"The market traders were impressed with him and said he was better than me.

"I think it is great he takes an interest in the job."

Tom's mum Joanne, 43, said yesterday: "He has loved the town crier Owen since he was about two. Tom is incredibly shy but hides behind the guise of the town crier."
