Scotland 1 Russia 2 Group I, Hampden Pk KILMARNOCK right-back Stephen O'Donnell had a night to forget as Scotland crashed to defeat.

O'Donnell missed a good chance to open the scoring when the best he could do was strike the post.

And his evening went from bad to worse in the 59th minute. Artem Dzyuba sent Aleksandr Golovin into the box with a superb pass and his cut back was sliced into his own net by O'Donnell for what turned out to be the winner.

Yet it had all looked so promising for boss Steve Clarke's men moments after O'Donnell's miss when John McGinn (above) pounced in the 10th minute.

Ryan Fraser's cross was fumbled by keeper Guilherme Marinato and the Aston Villa midfielder drove into an open net from six yards for his first international goal.

Russia equalised five minutes before half-time through clever Dzyuba.
