Nursing groups launch campaign to recruit a new generation of nurses.

TORONTO -- "Given the average age of Ontario's nursing workforce--44.7 for RNs and 44.1 for RPNs--the need to recruit future generations of nurses has never been so urgent", said RNAO president Adeline Falk-Rafael as the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario in collaboration with the Registered Practical Nurses Association of Ontario launched a public awareness campaign to steer more and more students toward a career in nursing.

Transit shelter and billboard advertising feature real-life photographs of nurses and patients in a variety of settings.

The campaign stems from recommendations put forward by the Joint Provincial Nursing Committee, comprised of nursing groups and the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.

The current shortage of nurses was the impact of health care spending cuts in the 1990's that caused 15,000 nurses to leave the profession.
