Nurse guilty of accessing 'sick' image.

A MALE Midland nurse has been found guilty of accessing an obscene image so shocking it made a female colleague "sick to her stomach" and in need of counselling by a disciplinary panel.

Dennis Griffiths, 32, of Kingswinford, worked for the Dudley Group of Hospitals NHS Trust at Russells Hall Hospital when the image, which involved a man and a dog, was seen on his computer in July 2007.

He argued the image, which he was said to have found "funny", was neither obscene nor indecent at a Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) hearing.

He was suspended and eventually dismissed from his job with the trust. And an expert was brought in to remove the image.

Mr Griffiths denied accessing an obscene and/or indecent image on a trust computer at the hearing.

He also denied failing to take appropriate action to protect colleagues, visitors and patients being exposed to the image. The NMC disciplinary panel found him guilty of both allegations. They have now retired to consider whether the facts of the case amount to misconduct.
