Now we have got even more to cheer about!

DOZENS of Teesside cheerleaders have been given a reason to celebrate after a winning performance at a national competition.

Cheer Starz Gymnastic and Cheerleading Academy members entered their first ever competition, the UK Cheerleading Winter Championships in Manchester, entering five divisions and coming away with a first and four second placed finishes.

Head coach and founder Pauline Crimmins described the feat as "outstanding", particularly after the competition class was only set up in June 2013 and members only had a few months' training.

"To say I am proud is an understatement," added Pauline. "The athletes have worked enormously hard and demonstrated huge levels of commitment and motivation. None of the children had participated in the sport which makes it an even bigger achievement."

The academy, is based in Ingleby Barwick and Yarm, is aiming to build on a great start to competitive cheering and are calling for budding cheerleaders to join, with no experience necessary.

The academy caters for anyone from the age of three to adult.

Cheer is a discipline that includes stunts, gymnastics, dance, motions and jumps combined into a display and the club trains at recreational and competitive level across all of these disciplines.
