Novatel Wireless MiFi 2372 Intelligent Mobile Hotspot to be launched by a2network across Japan.
Novatel Wireless Inc (Nasdaq: NVTL), a provider of wireless broadband access solutions, announced today that a2network Corporation, a Mobile Virtual Network Operator for DoCoMo in Japan, is launching the Novatel Wireless MiFi 2372 Intelligent Mobile Hotspot.
The company said that the MiFi platform represents the industry's first Intelligent Mobile Hotspot, a new category of mobile broadband that lets users put their world of content, services and connectivity in their pocket. Unlike existing router solutions that require an external broadband modem and serve only to provide connectivity, the MiFi platform creates a personal cloud of high-speed Internet connectivity that can be easily shared between multiple users and up to five Wi-Fi devices such as laptops, cameras, gaming devices and multimedia players.
The MiFi 2372 platform supports 800MHz, 1900MHz, and 2100MHz bands for local service in Japan, as well as for global roaming. It also includes a microSD slot for expandable memory that can be accessed and shared over the Wi-Fi link with up to five simultaneous users, located within 10 meters of the unit.
The MiFi 2372 device will be available through a2network Corporation at the end of April 2010. No pricing details were disclosed.
