Nothing but air in this booking agent's claims.

A KHALSA college graduate who also had an MBA degree from Australia was arrested by the police for allegedly cheating several people by collecting huge amounts of money on the pretext of booking air tickets.

Sanjeev Bhatia ( 45), a resident of Vikaspuri, was arrested after the police received a complaint from an NRI employed as a consulting advisor for World Bank that the accused defrauded him of about ` 1 lakh.

The police are now on the lookout for Bhatia's wife Topsy Bhatia, a citizen of Thailand who is currently absconding. The police have also recovered a diary in which Bhatia had written the transaction details of around 30 people whom he had cheated.

During interrogation, Bhatia confessed that he would target NRI clients looking for air tickets.

The couple would demand cash for booking the tickets.

Once the ticket was booked, they used to call the client a night prior to the date of journey and ask him to make the payment again through credit card on some pretext with the promise that the cash given earlier would be returned by way of post dated cheques. At times, they would also cancel the air ticket on the pretext of insufficient documents and would keep the refund amount with them.
