Note to teacher: The real threats are closer to home.

Byline: Elaine C. Smith

WHAT is the point in schools putting pupils' pictures on the net...with their heads covered by cartoon smiley faces?

If teachers and parents are so worried about the possibility of the images being viewed by paedophiles they might as well not put them on the school website at all.

I understand the concerns of head teacher Clare Reece and the parents at Cann Hall Primary School in Clacton, Essex, about some sinister characters lurking on the web.

But we have to get the issue into perspective. Last week paedophiles who were arrested across Britain on horrific sexual abuse charges had been abusing their OWN kids.

We should all remember that the vast majority of abuse is carried out by people the children know.

Yes we all must be alert and stay vigilant but we cannot let the real problem within families be ignored due to fear of the bogeyman.

Unfortunately the bogeyman for too many kids lives right in their own home.

Happy snap: Children are all smiles for school least I think they are; Raving mad: Kids are disguised with acid house smiley face masks; Grinning team: School football squad smile whatever the result
