Not much for the fans to be excited about.

TONIGHT hundreds of Bluenoses will travel down the M6 to the James Parnell Stadium to watch Blues in action in their first pre-season friendly against Nuneaton Town.

The Conference North outfit are unlikely to provide Gary Rowett's side with much of a challenge but Blues' fans are right to be hesitant about the team's chances in the upcoming season.

After scouting the online forums I have noticed a lot of anxiety about the lack of transfer activity. In fact, with less than a month to go until the first competitive outing against Reading, Rowett has only made four signings, of which I reckon just one is of first-team quality.

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Tomasz Kuszczak is a great signing. The Polish keeper has genuine quality and experience throughout all levels of the game. Kuszczak will hopefully fill the big boots left by Randolph.

But looking past this transfer there is very little for fans to get excited about. Alex Jones has been brought in without a single senior appearance for West Brom, while Rowett has teamed up with his former midfielder Jacques Maghoma, who served under him at Burton.

Finally, Adam Legzdins has signed from Orient as a replacement goalkeeper after long-serving Colin Doyle left the club earlier this summer.

Other than Kuszczak, none of these players really generate any anticipation among the fanbase. There really is very little for Blues' fans to get excited about.

If we put this in comparison to last year where by July 1st Lee Clark had signed eight players, including stars Clayton Donaldson and David Cotterill. Indeed, for all Clark's weaknesses, he knew how to play the transfer market, something Rowett is still yet to prove.

With speculation still rife around the futures of Donaldson and starlet Demarai Gray, there is definitely still work to do for Rowett. Throughout the squad there are weaknesses which the manager needs to address.

The ageing nature of the back four, the reliance on Cotterill and Gray in midfield and the lack of support for Donaldson up front.

There needs to be a lot of activity within the squad, which will hopefully pack St Andrew's with expectant Bluenoses on August 8th.
