Not confident; Your say.

EMPLOYMENT Minister Chris Grayling seems to be ignorant of successive governments' active involvement in the "disability shambles" - from Thatcher, Major, Blair, Brown to date. Many older folk were encouraged to go "permanent disability" as a means to massage unemployment figures.

The Government has plans to take the "disability" issue out of GPs' hands and folk will only get invalidity benefit after a compulsory medical. Given a 40% appeal overturn, one has to wonder how competent DWP medical examiners are. This doesn't inspire confidence in the proposed alterations.

Invalidity benefit figures for Middlesbrough, Stockton and Redcar are apparently higher than jobseekers' allowance figures. This must prompt serious investigation but it has to be done fairly not, as seems to be happening, arbitrary decisions taken for "target" reasons.

In fairness, though, being overweight or addicted to drink or drugs is self-inflicted. They can hardly be termed invalidity benefit illnesses.
