Not at all amused!!

We start our day reading about disasters and terrorism and the only relief we find, which undeniably brings a smile on our face is the comic section.

However, I write this letter wondering if anyone has ever noticed the lack of humour in one of the comic strips, Fred Basset.

I've been going through this strip for as long as it has appeared in the papers and I don't think it has even once amused me even the slightest (In spite of tickling myself till my fingers got sore and ending up with a piercing agony in my ribs!!).

I am a big fan of comic strips and Fred Basset must be the most pointless comic I've ever read.

If you don't believe me just check your latest paper.

Sometimes I think the strip is incomplete and wonder if the punch line will appear in the next day's paper but it's been years and I'm tired of waiting for the punch line.

Or is it one of those scenarios where the reader is supposed to suggest a funny caption or punch line?

If so please let me know because I'm sure I can come up with something funnier.

I often wonder why the GDN doesn't replace it with the many other comics such as Calvin and Hobbes (which used to be featured earlier), Beetle Bailey, Peanuts, Hagar the Horrible, Marvin etc.

The lack of humour is starting to get annoying and I know a lot of people who feel the same way.

I really enjoy reading Garfield and Up and Running which I find hilarious as well as Dilbert and the Daily Smile cartoons which actually have humour!!

A regular GDN reader
