Not all boating accidents happen on the water.

When it comes to trailered boats, nine out of 10 trailering malfunctions and accidents can be directly traced back to a failure to dedicate some time to the most basic preventative maintenance. Wheel bearings, suspension parts, lights and a host of other components require constant attention to help ensure a smooth and hassle-free trailer trip. Special attention to the tow vehicle's hitch is a good idea as that is the only link between the tow vehicle and the trailer.

Every boater is encouraged to be serious about boating safety, starting with the proper kind and amount of boater training. Remember, a boating mishap or fatality often involves innocent people who share in none of the blame, but all of the consequence. As a responsible boater, the life you save may very well be someone else's. For more information on safe boating or to take a boating safety course visit: http://www.uscgboating.org/.
