Not Labour colours.

SIR - I read with interest the essay by Hywel Francis, MP for Aberafan (Western Mail, August 15.

This was a very interesting piece although I cannot understand his conclusion that the Blaenau Gwent result has anything to do with a defeat for the internationalist traditions of the past.

I am also rather bewildered at his reference to the New Labour Candidate, Owen Smith, where he says that Mr Smith is 'an avowed socialist' and that he will one day be elected to Parliament.

That may be so, but clearly if Mr Smith is that strong a socialist his entry to Parliament will never be in New Labour colours.
