Northwest Airlines Announces New Service Between Lake Charles, La. And Memphis, Tenn.; Two Daily Nonstop Flights Begin October 1, 2001.

MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL, Minn., July 10 /PRNewswire/ --

Northwest Airlines (Nasdaq: NWAC) and its Northwest Airlink affiliate, Express Airlines I, announced today new service to Lake Charles, La. from its hub in Memphis, Tenn. as part of the on-going service expansion underway at Memphis-Shelby County Airport.

Effective October 1, 2001, travelers from Lake Charles will be able to take advantage of two daily nonstop flights to Memphis, with more than 200 connecting flights beyond to over 70 destinations.

The new service will be operated with Saab 340 regional turbo-prop aircraft equipped with 33 passenger seats, overhead bins and newly refurbished leather seats.

"Our new Memphis-Lake Charles service gives passengers in the Lake Charles area access to more destinations through Northwest Airline's Memphis hub," said Phil Reed, Northwest Airlink vice president marketing. "This new service will provide both business and leisure travelers frequent connections throughout Northwest's world-wide network."

U.S. Representative Chris John (D-La.) said, "I've been speaking with representatives from the airline industry for months about the need for increased air service in Lake Charles. Northwest's announcement today is great news for Southwest Louisiana air travelers because a deregulated airline industry only works when you have competition. Local families and businesses will benefit from the added service that Northwest will bring to the Lake area."
