Northern bypass to boost trade with Afghanistan, Central Asia.

PESHAWAR, November 02, 2011 (Frontier Star): The Federal Minister for Communications, Dr. Arbab Alamgir Khan has said that completion of Peshawar Northern Bypass will promote trade with Afghanistan and Central Asian States and will ultimately strengthen our economy. He was talking to media after making an emergency visit of Peshawar Northern Bypass to monitor progress of the project, says a press statement here on Tuesday. He said that 32 kilometres of the project would cost 10 billion rupees, whereas the whole project has been divided into three packages. By adding, he said that it would not only minimize traffic load on Peshawar but will also facilitate trade and industry. The first package has a 7.6 km road, 35 % of which is already complete and this part, to be inaugurated on 23 March, extends from Peshawar to Charsadda and will cost 2 billion rupees, he said. Arbab Alamgir Khan said that the NHA has been provided a fund of 35 billion rupees this year. Replying to a question, the Minister said that 35 police posts have been set up along Islamabad-Peshawar Motorway (M-1) to provide security to the travellers by the Motorway Police. The Federal Minister said that we are paying full attention to the uplift of Peshawar and two underpasses, costing 2.25 crore rupees, are also being constructed. Arbab Alamgir Khan said that the present democratic government is making comprehensive efforts for the progress and uplift of the country and it also has the credit of carrying out record development works in the communications sector. He said that the completion of Peshawar Northern Bypass will open a new chapter in the progress and development of the region and will also strengthen convenient and durable road links with the neighbouring countries. It will promote our trade, tourism, industry and agriculture and will strengthen our economy to put the country on the road to prosperity. The Chairman NHA, while inspecting the construction work, clarified to the officials and personnel working on the project to take due care of the standard and pace of construction and ensure its timely completion. The Chairman made it imperative upon the Project Director to ensure its inauguration by 23 March, 2011. On this occasion, the Chairman NHA Syed Muhammad Ali Gardezi, Member Construction-II NHA Yousuf Ali Khan, GM NHA Khyber Pakhtunkhwa region Fazal Nawab Khattak, GM Motorways Muhammad Shahid Khan, Project Director PNBP Wazirzada and other high officials were also present.
