Northern Trust (NASDAQ:NTRS) has said that it has appointed Shana Hayes as director of Community Affairs, which is responsible for the company's philanthropic strategy globally.

In her new role, the company says that Hayes will be responsible for setting a philanthropic strategy that reflects Northern Trust's role as leading corporate citizen, refining corporate giving programs to create measurable social impact and fostering employee engagement through enhanced volunteerism. Hayes will report to chief marketing and communications officer, Kelly Mannard.

Hayes, who has more than 20 years of non-profit and philanthropic experience across financial development, marketing, strategic planning and operations, has most recently been at the Academy for Urban School Leadership, where she was managing director. She has previously held leadership roles at the Kohl Children's Museum of Greater Chicago, Ravinia Festival and the Joffrey Ballet of Chicago. Hayes also volunteers with Orphans of the Storm Animal Shelter.
