Northeast PIMA'S new award: The Gilman J. Berube award.

In an effort to honor loyal members in the Northeast Division of PIMA, Caren Brown, Affiliate Chair and Territory Manager of Tesatape North America; and Dave Lee, Chair and Machine Supt. of Fraser Paper, have developed a new award specifically for their division. They wanted to acknowledge the loyal members who attend the annual meetings, provide booths at the trade shows and participate in other ways, such as encouraging their employees to join PIMA or providing guest speakers for their sessions.

While searching for a role model that could best exemplify these qualities, they quickly looked to Gil Berube. Berube is the manager of Reliability Maintenance at Nexfor Fraser Papers in Madawaska, Maine. He coordinates their trade shows, and has been a chair in the past. He currently chairs their Maintenance Subcommittee and participates at the national level on the Engineering and Maintenance Subcommittee. He himself is an award recipient of the Ken Phillips Award and clearly represents the loyalty and excellence that they wanted to acknowledge.

Berube was presented a plaque announcing the award in his name with the following inscription. "In appreciation of your demonstrated commitment to Northeast PIMA, assuring our success and longevity, Northeast PIMA has developed The Gil Berube Award to recognize the continuing support and efforts of the members of the Northeast Division of PIMA. September 20, 2002."

The first recipient of The Gil Berube Award was Charlie Swan, owner of Industrial Packing, Inc. in Bucksport, Maine. He is also co-owner of New England Braiding Company in Manchester, New Hampshire. Swan received the award inscribed: "In recognition of the continuing support and efforts from the members of the Northeast PIMA. Thank you for the demonstrated commitment to assuring our success and longevity." Swan has developed ma ny friends over the years through his affiliation with Northeast PIMA and responded to his award by saying, "Knowing the award is named after my friend Gil makes it mean that much more to me."

Northeast PIMA is pleased to serve a region that serves them back. It is this loyalty that has created the desire to acknowledge a partnership based on this commitment. They are proud to offer the Gil Berube Award and look forward to honoring several more deserving members in the years to come.
