Northeast Ohio's Secret Treasure Artist Tracy Ameen to Have Showing at Pennello Gallery June 2011.

CLEVELAND -- Pennello Gallery in Little Italy announced today that local Bainbridge artist Tracy Ameen will have a one person show during the annual spring Little Italy Art Walk at the gallery. Ms. Ameen produces two types of pottery: sculpted single wall pots and double-wall, reticulated pieces. She is one of only a handful of artists worldwide that create Chinese double-walled ceramic pottery, a 13th century technique when the object is built out of one piece of clay on a pottery wheel. It is a technique so rare and one that requires such skill that the Chinese labeled it "the devil's work."

At 47, Ms. Ameen's impressive pieces are part of the permanent collections of the National Afro-American Museum and Cultural Center, Wilberforce University, the White House, the Smithsonian's Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum as well as many other permanent collections worldwide.

It's strong, nimble fingers and even stronger passions for everyday life that are the focus of her ceramic pieces. Her inspiration comes from simple things - a song, a conversation, a memory, a person she meets.

"My art is about figuring out how to live on this planet. We're all in this together, so we might as well learn to appreciate our differences and love and respect each other. [When] my soul starts vibrating and my head swells with commotion, that's when I sit down at my wheel and force it all out through my hands and let the clay have it! I am a medium for the clay--a conduit, like an electrical wire."

Ms. Ameen's work will be on display from June 3 - June 30th. She will be present at Pennello Gallery to explain her techniques from 7 p.m. - 10 p.m. on June 3rd and June 4th.

The Little Italy Hill Art Walk will be held June 3, 4 and 5 from noon - 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, noon - 6 p.m. on Sunday.
