North sweeps Roseburg.
Byline: The Register-GuardNorth Eugene swept a nonleague prep baseball doubleheader against visiting Roseburg on Monday, winning 7-6 and 8-0.
Steven Humble drew a bases-loaded walk to score the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning in the opener, then Jacob Franke pitched a five-hit shutout for the Highlanders in the second game.
Junction City's Ryan Rauschert hit a pair of triples and had two RBIs, while pitcher Deric Hemmele tossed a two-hitter to lead the Tigers to a 5-2 victory against visiting South Eugene.
Callan Vaccaro hit three home runs to lead visiting Siuslaw to a 9-8 win against Douglas in the opener of a doubleheader.
Thomas Drake pitched a two-hitter as Douglas won 2-1 in eight innings in the second game.
Akaoka Wataru and Mike McCormick combined for a one-hit shutout as Marist defeated Century 10-0 at the Tigard Invitational. Jeff Ryding went 2-for-3 with two RBIs for the Spartans.
Jon Zysett struck out six and went 2-for-4 with two RBIs as visiting Monroe defeated Regis, 6-1.
Softball
Kelly Dyer pitched a pair of shutouts as Churchill won twice at the North Medford tournament. Dyer led Churchill to 5-0 victories against both Westview and Lincoln.
In the two games combined, Dyer allowed six hits and struck out 20.
North Eugene split a pair of games at the North Medford tournament, beating Beaverton 1-0 before losing 3-0 to South Medford.
Ashley Likens had 22 strikeouts over the two games. She also doubled home the winning run in the ninth inning against Beaverton.
Newport lost twice to visiting Sweet Home, falling 2-1 and 6-5.
Brooke Chestnut was a combined 4-for-7 for the Cubs.
