North Today: Tragic student.

A STUDENT died after taking a Chinese herbal medicine for a minor illness.

Ling "Carrie" Wang, 25, died after taking a traditional remedy for stomach upsets and a skin rash.

She was admitted to the Freeman Hospital, Newcastle, but fell into a coma, and died after her liver and other internal organs failed, an inquest heard.

It is not known where the Newcastle University graduate, who lived in digs in Ancrum Street, Spital Tongues, got the medicine, which doctors believe could have been a remedy called Jin Bu Huan. A verdict of misadventure was recorded.
