North Today: Duck race.

AROUND 20,000 plastic ducks will race the River Wear in Durham next Sunday as part on an event to raise awareness of the need for hygiene and clean water in the developing world.

Northumbrian Water has sponsored the Grand Durham Duck Race organised by the Durham University Charities Kommittee (DUCK), which coincides with World Toilet Day.

The owner of the winning duck ticket will win pounds 1,000. To buy a race duck, text Duck to 60999. Tickets are available from the Durham Tourist Information Centre, Prince Bishops Shopping Centre, Durham Students Union and Clayport Library.
