North Island laid out for Plate by race specialist Bowen.
Richard Newland, trainer of rSchindler's Gold and Wake Board "Schindler's Gold has been prepared for the race and he goes there in great order. Until his bubble bursts we have to hope that a mark of 139 could be workable. There is a chance he could have been flattered last time and it's unfortunate that the weights have gone up, but I am excited about his chance. Wake Board isn't without a chance either, but I'm not certain the race will be run to suit him."
Paul Nicholls, trainer of Classic Swain "We've had this race in mind for him for a while and he has a chance, but no more than that. He ran nicely at Cheltenham last time and also won a similar race to this at Newton Abbot. A bit of rain would do him no harm and, if he did run well, he could go on to Galway."
Howard Johnson, trainer of Logans Run "We ran him in blinkers for the first time at Hexham in May and he won easily but he didn't take to them on his next run so we are leaving them off now. For what he has done he is too high in the weights."
Martin Keighley, trainer of Pilgrims Lane "He only joined me this week, but he schools nicely and works well. He has a solid each-way chance but would not want too much rain."
Peter Bowen, trainer of Saphir Des Bois and North Island "North Island was always going to be my main hope for the race. He has already won twice at Market Rasen and we've been aiming at this since we brought him back in. He would be fine if rain changes the ground and Saphir Des Bois certainly would as I think he might need softer conditions than he has been getting." Alan O'Keeffe, rider of Pyracantha "Stepping up to two and three-quarter miles will suit him, but the worry is that he is a novice against experienced handicappers. If he puts in a nice round of jumping he should run well."
