North East trio join jazz star Jamie Cullum in Gateshead.
ICENI will entertain the audience at Hall One, Sage Gateshead ahead of Jamie's gig at the venue with their signature harmonious pop stamp.
They were chosen from a group of North East acts who have had their talents highlighted by the nationwide BBC Introducing... initiative, which exists to bring together the broadcaster's many supporters of new music together with those making it.
"We've done some sessions with Nick Roberts who heads up our local BBC Introducing thing," said band member Lindsay Hannon, who plays bass and vocals. "And then of course Jamie Cullum has his show on Radio Two as well, so he's already plugged into the station. He thought the quality of what was being put out on BBC Introducing... was so high, he wanted to pick someone from every area to support him on the date of the tour - and we're the northern contingent."
Formed in 2009, ICENI is made up of Lindsay, Liz Corney (piano and vocals) and Lady Caroline Mary (drums and vocals). After a "stoppy starty" couple of years, the band, who are aged between 29 and 32, began writing and recording in earnest together in 2011.
They released their first EP in earlier this year and are planning to start recording their debut album towards the end of November. But first up is their date with Jamie in Hall One.
