NORDIC BUSINESS REPORT-20 January 2005-Norsk Hydro ASA begins drilling on Obelix prospect in the Barents Sea(C)1994-2005 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

The Norwegian energy and materials group Norsk Hydro ASA said on Thursday (20 January) that it had begun exploratory drilling on the Obelix prospect in the Barents Sea.

The exploration zone lies 190 kilometres offshore Norway, between the Snohvit field and the Arctic island of Bjornoya.

The water depth in the drilling area is 370 metres.

The drilling operation is being carried out by the drilling rig Eirik Raude supported by the supply vessels Northern Corona and Skandi Admiral.

According to Norsk Hydro the drilling operations in the area will be the most environmentally-friendly exploratory well ever drilled on the Norwegian continental shelf.
