Norman conquers windy conditions.

It's been a difficult week with strong cold winds, though sport has been good.

The Lockwood Beck rod average is 3.4, though some anglers fared considerably better.

Norman Cowell caught 20 from the dam keeping one of 9lb 12oz; John Anderson had 13 keeping two for 14lb 12oz (best 10lb 12oz). John Foster caught 11, keeping three for 14lb 8oz (best 9lb 8oz).

Mark Walker caught four doubles to 11lb, while William Leitch returned fish of 11lb and 9lb.

Boat anglers had some nice fish as well. Leslie Davison Ben kept three for 21lb with 10-year-old grandson Ben, who was with him, getting the best fish of 9lb 12oz.

A further stocking of 250 rainbows from 2lb to 5lb, and 60 of 10lb plus has just taken place.

Top Lures are Dawson's Nomad, Black Nomad, Cat's Whisker. Nymphs: Pheasant Tail, Black and Olive Buzzer, GRHE and Damsel Nymph.

The Airflo individual match is fished at Lockwood next Saturday and, depending on entry numbers, the banks may be closed that day. For details ring 07973 779527.

THE new season at SCALING DAM started with snow showers, but 61 hardy anglers turned out.

The total for the opening weekend was 77 and they caught 367 rainbows, with most falling to Powerbait, swimfeedered maggot, and worm. A further 950 have been stocked.

AT JUBILEE, James Stephenson from Great Ayton offered an Orange Blob to tempt a rainbow of 15lb 12oz.

The rod average is 2.4 and top patterns include: Orange Fritz, White Fritz, Dawson's Olive, Nomad, Cat's Whisker.

GOLDEN trout to 11lb at WEST HOUSE, while Andrew Bogan caught 12 rainbows on lures. Top patterns include: Blobs, Montana, Black Fritz, Cat's Whisker and Buzzers.

LEIGHTON is fishing so well that 60 per cent of anglers have taken their limit. The rod average is 4.3, and rainbows to 6lb 8oz have been caught, mainly on lures such as Cat's Whisker, Dawson's Olive and Orange Fritz, fished deep.

AT THORNTON STEWARD rainbows to 4lb 8oz have been caught. Lures and Gold Ribbed Hare's Ear are best.

The rod average is 4.8.

THE rod average at DERWENT RESERVOIR on opening day was a best ever of six.

DERWENT: 197 anglers caught 999 rainbows to 5lb 12oz. Bait: Worm and Powerbait cocktail, spinner. Patterns: Dawson's Olive, Cat's Whisker, Black Fritz, Orange Fritz. 8000 stocked.

BLACKTON: 35 anglers caught 115 rainbows to 4lb 8oz and seven blues. Patterns: Black Fritz, Olive Fritz, Boobies, Dawson's Olive. 1000 stocked.

GRASSHOLME: 80 anglers caught 350 rainbows to 8lb and eight blues. Bait: Legered Powerbait eggs, spring green paste. Patterns: Black Fritz, Green Fritz, Cat's Whisker, Dawson's Olive. 2000 stocked.

FONTBURN: 144 anglers caught 926 rainbows to 6lb. Bait: Bright green or yellow Powerbait. Patterns: Cat's Whisker, Dawson's Olive, Viva. 4500 stocked.

KIELDER: 63 anglers caught 102 rainbows to 3lb 2oz. Worm best. Around 1800 stocked.
