Nomads step up challenge; TABLE TENNIS.

BEAUMONT Accountancy Nomads D stepped up their challenge for honours at the top of the Middlesbrough and District League's Division Two with an 8-2 victory over Swerve D. Bruce Lowther was the star of the Nomads team as he scored a hat-trick, while Geoff Howe and Richard Chamberlain both won two, losing only to Brian Cowan.

Last week Beaumont enjoyed a 9-1 defeat of Ormesby E with hat-tricks from Robert Evans and Malcolm Noble.

Top of the division are Nunthorpe B who did not have a fixture this week but whitewashed Ormesby J previously with hat-tricks from David Hildreth, Chris Gunn and Bernie Welford.

The third team in contention for honours is East Cleveland B who scored an impressive 10-0 victory over Ormesby K thanks to hat-tricks from Paul Flanigan, Albert Wilson and Huw Williams.

Nunthorpe are currently leading the division with a maximum 50 points from five matches played.

Nomads are a close second with 46 from five and East Cleveland third on 42 points from their five games.
