NOMADIC WAY, winn eroftheStayers' Hurdle and Cesarewitch in a career thatyieldedtenvictories,hasdiedaged 27.

Bredand owned by the late Robert Sangster and trained by Barry Hills, Nomadic Waymadehisdebutasajuvenile at WarwickinOctober1987,finishing downthefieldandgivinglittlehintof whatwastocome.

As a three-year-old, he began to develop into a potent force, winning seventimes,notablytheCesarewitchat Newmarket,wherehewaspartneredby WillieCarson .

Nomadic Way was then sent over hurdles at four, finishingeighthinthe Triumph Hurdle at the Cheltenham FestivalunderKevinMooney .

That was to be the first of four appearancesatthefestival.Thefollowing twoyearshefinishedrunner-upinthe Champion Hurdle, to Kribensis and MorleyStreet,beforegainingadeserved success under Jamie Osborne in the 1992Stayers'Hurdle.

The esteem in which Nomadic Way was held, and what that festival win meant to connections, was underlined yesterdaybyHills,whosaid:"Hewasa lovely horse who was not over-big but very tough and he stayed really well. HiswinintheStayers'gavemeasmuch pleasureasanywinnerIhad.

"Hehadawonderful record,withbig wins in the Cesarewitch and Irish ChampionHurdle,andwasa regularat theCheltenhamF estival."

Nomadic WaycappedOsborne'sbest day in the saddle when winning the Stayers'. The jockey-turned-trainer recalledyesterday:"Hewasthelastleg of a treble on the first day of the festival and you're unlikely to better that.

"He was a steering job that day and travelled round there in third gear, steppedupintripforthefirsttime."

Nomadic Waywasputdownyesterday at Louella Stud in Leicestershire, his ownersforthepast19yearsandfrom wherehesiredthewinners o f109races, mostnotablyBuckbyLane,SuperNomad andHimalayanTrail.
