No slump this time promises Clayton.

Byline: Dominic Shaw Sports writer

MIDFIELD general Adam Clayton is more than aware of Boro's previous post-Christmas slumps but insists there will be no repeat this time around.

Two years ago Boro entered the Christmas period in the promotion pack but suffered a shocking January - starting with a 3-1 loss at Derby - and never recovered.

But Clayton believes Boro's squad boasts too much quality and strength in depth to suffer another winter wobble.

"There's always that chance of the team falling off but I just don't think the manager will allow that here," Clayton told the club's website.

"No-one can really slack off because there's always someone to come into the team and take your place - we've just got to keep going and working in the same way.

"That (2012/13) season the team dropped off. I don't think any side has ever had a capitulation like that before, so if we just keep taking one game at a time I think we'll be fine."
