No repeat of 'footbrawl' vowed.
Cebu City, Cebu - The Cebu Football Association (CFA) is expressing extreme disappointment over the recent brawl involving two football teams here and vowed that it will work hard to keep the incident isolated and to never let a similar occurrence happen again.
CFA Disciplinary Committee Chairman Julius Entice said football in Cebu is still a young and growing sport and the brawl involving players of Alcoy FC and Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) could discourage parents from allowing their children to play football.
To recall, the unfortunate incident happened last Sunday during a game between Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu and Alcoy VC in the 16th Aboitiz Football Cup, which saw players including Alcoy FC's goalkeeper assaulted and bloodied by a spectator.
Entice made his pronouncements after reading the CFA Disciplinary Committee's decision to suspend five players of Alcoy FC and four SHS-AdC players from playing in any CFA-sanctioned football tournament for six months.
The committee also suspended Alcoy FC coach Chris delos Santos and SHS-AdC coach Hayato Ayabe for six months from coaching.
"After a thorough evaluation of the circumstances surrounding the incident, it is the unanimous opinion of the members of the Board of Directors of Cebu Football Association that the team officials of both Ateneo de Cebu and Alcoy FC lost control and miserably failed to prevent the players on the bench from entering the playing field of their respective players," stated the CFA Board in its decision read by lawyer Julius Ceasar Entice of the discipline committee.
The suspended players are Mark Manlosa, Rodnel Benolivao, Jake delos Santos, Mon Ferdinand and Mon Carel Osorio of Alcoy and Miguel Kwan, Mark Veloso, Karlo Villamor and Thirdy Pepito of SHS-Ateneo.
