No limits: Randy Alexander of Little Rock's McKay & Co. found his niche in real estate.

Randy Alexander graduated from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock's marketing program in 1967 and decided to pursue a career in dry cleaning.

That changed five years later.

In 1972, Alexander began working part time for McKay & Co., a new Little Rock real estate firm. By 1973, he had sold his dry-cleaning business and joined McKay & Co. full time.

When John McKay, founder of McKay & Co., decided to sell the firm in 1982, another door opened for Alexander, who had been promoted to president in 1980.

Alexander purchased McKay & Co.

"It was a natural transition for me," he says. "I knew this particular company and its people."

Alexander has doubled the sales force since 1984. He now has 42 employees.

20th Anniversary

McKay & Co. is celebrating its 20th anniversary. But Alexander admits two decades of success can create problems.

"When you've been a leader in the market for a long time, it is difficult to make changes," he says.

To avoid this pitfall, McKay & Co. recently introduced a new marketing tool, the television program "Home Showcase." The 30-minute program, televised each Saturday at 9 a.m. on KATV-TV, Channel 7, features properties offered by the company.

Alexander says the program is reflective of the firm's "willingness to be aggressive. We have taken a bold step, but the response has been tremendous."

Alexander says McKay & Co. doesn't intend to stop there.

"We are people who are geared toward success," he says.
