No getting round it - The Cube is ugly; viewpoint.

Dear Editor, So the developers of The Cube have gone into administration.

Unfortunately, they have left behind what is arguably the ugliest building to be erected in Birmingham in recent years, a legacy which we will all now be able behold for many years to come.

What happened to the glistening multifaced building shown in the architects' impressions prior to construction? What we seem to have is an enormous box with the exterior covered in what appear to be badly fitted surplus kitchen worksurfaces. Surely the city planners should have paid more attention to the finish of such a vast building which will dominate the locality for decades.

Instead, it is a further indictment to the failure of architects and planners to create buildings which are a pleasure to behold and do something to enhance the built environment.
