No competitive edge.

No Competitive Edge

Media watchers' eyes popped open when Cliff Ford, KWNN AM 1050 owner, announced the station's quarterly publication The Winning Edge would start going monthly Jan. 1.

Could it be yet another business pub in the Little Rock market? Yes, but not a competitive one, says Ford, because his magazine is the only one of its kind.

Like KWNN's motivational format, The Winning Edge features inspiring and instructional articles aimed at small businesses and sales people. It is not a venue to cover current business news.

The station suffered a "bleeding situation" during its first year of existence, but projected sales for October are $25,000 and even higher for November. Ford is looking at the magazine to bring in extra revenue.

Ten thousand copies of the first issue were distributed this summer, with close to 3,200 listeners requesting the publication. Ads featured the same businesses that advertise on air, but Ford says his staff of five sales people will have to branch out their sales to support the monthly format.
