No Crypt ticket? You can still have a festival.
NOT got tickets for Liverpool Beer festival next weekend? Don't panic - the festival is so big it's developed its very own "fringe" of alternative festivals to quench the thirst of visiting beer lovers.
The beer festival itself, held in the Crypt of the Metropolitan Cathedral, runs from Thursday to Saturday. It's one of Britain's greatest beer events - so, all tickets sold out weeks ago.
There are plenty of great Liverpool real ale pubs if you just want a great pint. But if you're still craving that festival atmosphere, why not try one of these three alehouses...
The Augustus John, off Brown-.low Hill Just round the corner from the Crypt, the Augustus John will host its now-traditional mini beerfest from Thursday to Saturday, with up to 25 ales and 12 ciders on sale.
The Dispensary, Renshaw Street. This alehouse will offer up to 45 different beers over its four-day festival, which also starts on Thursday. Landlord Dave Williams has chosen many ales that won't be on sale at the Camra event, so the festivals complement each other nicely.
The Ship and Mitre, Dale Street. If you want to start your festival week early, the Ship and Mitre's latest real ale festival starts on Wednesday and runs until Sunday.
The pub is promising 80 different ales. At any one time the main bar will offer 14 handpulls, while a stillage bar will have another 10 beers straight from the barrel.
If you're lucky enough to visit in the daytime, the pub will even do "cellar runs" so you can try other ales before they hit the main bar. But don't all rush at once - the pub warns that "at busy periods we may have to suspend this service".
