Nintendo has Wii-ld success.

NINTENDO'S sales of its new Wii console topped a massive pounds 35million over Christmas.

All 200,000 machines for the UK market were sold.

Nintendo also sold 700,000 handheld DS and DS Lite units in Britain, and 1.7 million in Europe.

It makes the DS last year's best selling console.

Nintendo filled the gap left by Sony which was forced to delay the launch of its PlayStation3 until March because of technical problems.

Seven out of ten Wii owners bought The Legend of Zelda. Almost half snapped up Wii Play, independent analysts Chart Track revealed.

Nintendo said: "DS and Wii sold at staggering rates. We're now facing stock shortages but are doing everything possible to combat this."
