Night of the bard with valley group; Local news.

COLNE Valley branch of the Labour Party will be celebrating Scotland's immortal bard Robert Burns on Saturday . The party is holding a Burns Supper at the Red and Green Club in Bankwell Road, Milnsbridge.

Organiser Thelma Walker said: "The poetry of Robert Burns was tremendously radical and highly relevant to the present day.

"He was a champion of the poor and oppressed and a remorseless foe of tyranny and pomposity.

"His appeal was, and remains, universal: his poetry was on the bookshelf of many a Colne Valley handloom weaver in the early 19th centur y."

The evening will feature the traditional haggis with addresses and speeches, some of which may be slightly tongue-in-cheek.

There will be a light-hearted Spot the Scot quiz and other entertainment.

The event is open to all and costs PS6. Places must be booked via but tickets can be paid for on the door.
