Night chat led to crash, jury told.

THE driver of a Land Rover which careered on to a rail line causing the Selby train crash fell asleep at the wheel, a court heard today.

Gary Hart, 37, had spent five hours chatting to a woman he had met on the internet just hours before the accident happened.

His Land Rover and trailer left the M62 around 6am on February 28 near the village of Great Heck, North Yorkshire. Moments later it was hit by a GNER express which then collided with a fully laden coal train.

Hart, of Strubby, Lincolnshire, pleaded not guilty to causing the deaths of 10 people by dangerous driving at Leeds crown court.
