The contest for largest overall audience for the late news was fairly close, with KTHV only a fraction of a point ahead of KATV. The CBS affiliate's 10 p.m. newscast pulled down a 9.4 rating and 20.7 share to lead KATV's 8.9/19.5, KARK's 5/11.1 and the 4.3/7.8 of KLRT's 9 p.m. showing.
In the demos, though, KTHV managed to open a slightly larger lead. For persons aged 25 to 54, KTHV notched a 6.9 coupled with an 8.4 for women of the same age range. Channel 7 had 5.7 for persons 25 to 54 and 7.1 for women. KARK brought home 3.6 in the persons category and 3.4 in women. And, in a strong showing, the Fox station brought home a 4.2 for persons and 4.9 for women, putting it in third place.
In a release, Chuck Spohn, Channel 16's vice president and general manager, called the ratings "a great early Christmas gift." Fox16 began airing its 9 p.m. newscast in 2004.
