Nigeria : FG releases N200b to Varsities.

Two hundred billion naira has been released to Vice Chancellors of Public Universities, to improve on infrastructures, teaching and learning facilities in their various institutions.

The supervising Minister of Education, Nyesom Wike presented the letters of allocation to the Vice Chancellors stating that the fund was the second installment to Universities by the Federal Government.

The Minister said that Nigerians deserve the right to know government s investment in tertiary education.

He said that the balance of one hundred billion naira for the first installment paid last year will be remitted to the universities this year, so as to ensure maximum utilization of the fund.

The Federal Government agreed to release the sum of one point two trillion naira in six installments to public universities, after the five month old industrial action embarked on by the members of the Academic Staff Union of Nigeria Universities, ASUU to revitalize infrastructure and improve on teaching and learning.
