Niger : Centre for Edo Delta Development Initiative renews effort to combat diabetes.

Renewing its effort to combat diabetes, the Centre for Edo Delta Development Initiative is providing skills training programmes for the locals of the Niger Delta.

Although it has been present since 2012, the initiative was crystallised to be Centre for Edo Delta Development initiative and registered as a nongovernmental organization (NGO) in 2014 by the founding Grandbeacons led by Chief Sam Igbe, who is the Iyase (Prime Minister) of Benin Kingdom.

The aim is to remove poverty and deal with the debilitating effects of diabetes on the locals of the Edo and Delta states.

The initiative is also engaged in human resource development of the locals of these states through periodic empowerment training programmes.

The initiative has been successful in empowering over 5,000 persons in 7 local government areas in Edo state in Plaster of Paris (POP) ceiling board design and moulding, liquid soap, sanitizer, insecticide, air freshener making and mobile fish farming.

A part of the beneficiaries are funded by the program to allow them to launch the new business the initiative has empowered them with.
